IDPC ANNOUNCES SECOND CONSULTATIVE FORUM AND DIASPORA DIALOGUE
London - August 2008:
IDPC announces its second consultative forum and unprecedented
Diaspora dialogue event to be held at the African Medical Rescue and
Emergency Foundation (AMREF) headquarters in Nairobi on the 15th –
16th December 2008.
The dialogue, which will be structured as a conference to allow
ample opportunities for substantive interaction and discussion, is
themed “creating sustainable networks and partnerships for
strengthening individual and institutional capacities towards
Kenya’s socio economic development and Vision 2030 delivery”.
It is an unprecedented event in the sense that it will bring
together a select group of representatives from various key
stakeholders including the private sector, government and public
sector, multilateral and bilateral organizations, in country experts
and of course the Diaspora to explore practical and implementable
means of positively harnessing the impact of globalisation and
migration especially on Kenya. Its expected outcome will include at
least one common project to be implemented from 2009.
The dialogue’s overall purpose is to share knowledge and success
stories in relation to the Diaspora issue; and, to identify
potential areas for collaboration and for scaling up programs. It
will indeed be a unique opportunity to explore potential
partnerships and networks. There is though a need to remember that
partnerships should be based upon the willingness to understand
differences between partners, which can then be a source of strength
when each one not only develops a common understanding of the others
but is also able to work together towards one common purpose yet
retain their distinct identities, independence and agendas. We hope
this conference will provide the space to develop this common
understanding as well as of what common practical project (s) needs
undertaking to effectively harness the Diaspora’s economic and
intellectual skills sets for capacity building and socio economic
development.
This is a limited invitation event only to those who can
significantly add to our, and a growing group of like minded
partners’ deliberations; and, especially our overall objective of
identifying and implementing a practical project aimed at Kenya’s
socio economic development. We believe it will be a truly
unprecedented dialogue and foundation for creating sustainable
development focused partnerships.
